About Me

I'm a Senior at USF majoring in Cybersecurity with a graduation date set to be in the Fall of 2023. I started wanting to get into Cybersecurity/IT when I was younger, I was always the kid who helped his grandparents set up technologies and would be the "call man" for when they needed me to come over. When in high school, I was allowed to tour USF and was amazed with the concept of Cybersecurity. From there on out, I have decided that this major was going to be what I wanted to do in life. I have spent the last few years leading up to graduation falling in love with the space of Cybersecurity and having the pleasure to be able to work on labs/projects relating to PenTesting, Risk Analysis, Cloud Technologies, Red/Blue Team, Threat Assessment, and DevOps. Moving forward, I am working towards opportunities to learn and cultivate my skills in the hope that I can use them in the field that I fell in love with.

    My interests include:
  • Systems security analysis
  • Data analytics
  • Database management
  • Cloud technologies
  • DevOps
    My proficiencies include:
  • Python
  • SQL
  • AWS cloud technologies
  • Risk analysis
  • Cybersecurity

Projects

OPNsense Firewall Deployment Homelab

Designed, implemented, and evaluated an OPNsense firewall to host a private and protected Local Area Network (LAN) on a homelab VMWare Image. Integrated the firewall with Graylog SIEM as its remote syslog.

  • Setup an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) that is based on Suricata and utilizes Netmap. Applied rules to the IDS to log, alarm and drop network access from an attack when detected
  • Utilized remote syslog functionalities to integrate the OPNsense firewall with Graylog SIEM event monitoring.
  • Applied NAT port forwarding rules to protect an internal web service on a Linux Virtual Machine and hide its IP address from external adversaries.
  • Applied rules to my deployed firewall to allow hosts on the network to automatically be configured using DHCP
  • Applied DNS setup and rules to route traffic through a DNS resolver with pre-defined DNS request responses and websites.
  • Applied HTTP rules to allow and prevent LAN host network traffic over HTTP.
  • Enabled a FTP firewall proxy for internal/private client operations, and established traffic shaping rules for various protocols to limit the amount of traffic that an external source can use on my internal/private Linux image server.

PenTest Homelab using Metasploit and Greenbone OpenVAS

Configured a Windows 7 Virtual Machine with an initially unknown IP to test Penetration Testing techniques against. Utilized NMAP scans, Greenbone OpenVAS scans, and Metasploit to find vulnerabilities and gain access to the system.

  • Utilized a base Kali Virtual Machine to install Greenbone OpenVas and establish a Metasploit workspace on.
  • Performed an NMAP aggressive scan of entire network to find the target machines IP address.
  • Performed both UDP and TCP NMAP scans, as well as a scan of all ports.
  • Performed a full OpenVAS scan of the machine to reveal the services being ran.
  • Imported OpenVAS XML into a Metasploit workspace that then showcased a vulnerability in the VULNS table for 'Elasticsearch' which the system was running an outdated version of.
  • Targeted the ElasticSearch version with a search inside the Metasploit database, and was able to run a Dynamic Script Arbitrary Java Execution exploit that gained me basic access to a meterpeter shell.
  • Utilized the meterpeter shell to manually download a hashdump utility onto the system that gave me a hashdump of the passwords . Utilization of John The Ripper gave me system access with a privileged accounts credentials.

PenTest School-Homelab exploiting vulnerable Windows 7 machine

Configured a Windows 7 Virtual Machine with Immunity Debugger to test the effects of a custom made shellcode exploit targeting an outdated version of SLMail and attempting to cause a Reverse Shell attack.

  • Utilizing msfvenom on a base Kali VM, I generated a reverse TCP shellcode that would be able to be sent to my target Windows VM and cause the exploit.
  • A python script was provided that simplified the process of sending the shellcode, but a crucial part was initializing the shellcode with a nopslide that totals the value of 16 nops in the script
  • When ran, the shellcode would overflow the SLMail service and generate a reverse shell on the Kali machine allow me full access to the Windows VM.
  • Further testing had me utilizing the msfvenom commands to insert a nopslide directly into the code being generated and sent to the Windows 7 VM, as well as altering it so the SLMail service would continue to run after shellcode exit.

Personal Portfolio Website

Created a personal portfolio website to showcase certifications I have achieved, information about me personally, and any major projects I have been able to work on.

  • This website is a demonstration of the HTML, CSS, and JS skills learned in my Fall 2023 semester.
  • The main focus of this website was to showcase myself, and my resume as well
  • Further expansions are planned with a blog in the works for TryHackMe, and CTF competitions I plan to work on
